Curriculum

This page describes the characteristics of the Applied Chemistry program’s curriculum. See the figure below for more information.

Cross-course study

During their first year and the first semester of their second year, students solidify their understanding of the fundamentals through a series of shared courses. During the second semester of their second year, they choose which of the four courses of study (Polymeric Materials Design, Materials Chemistry Design, Molecular Chemistry Design, and Functional Materials Design) they will focus on in their studies, at which point they start to take specialized courses. During their third year, students take specialized courses offered by other courses of study in addition to specialized courses from their own course of study.

A seamless route to graduate school through the “3 × 3” structure

Students can receive a recommendation under the graduate “3 × 3” recommendation admission special examination program based on a comprehensive evaluation of factors such as their score on the achievement test taken upon completion of their third year (B3), their TOEIC score, and their GPA, providing a seamless route to graduate study by allowing them to take courses offered by the Institute’s master’s program during their fourth undergraduate year (B4/M0). As a result, students can focus on research that continues their graduate research during their first year of master’s study (M1), making it easier to find time for other pursuits such as study abroad and overseas internships.
